“Wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it”
Once we observe the history and inventions, it is not about particular university or area leading to learning or success. It is a process which is completely dependent upon an individual itself. It is the task of owns mind to think and learn. We have seen the benefits of classrooms systems, in that as well the students understand and learn through their own pace. Else all the students would had been successful in the class. Learning is not about a country, university it is all about the individual capacity. The more early we understand the more we can plan our own life that learning is not the schools which are responsible. Although they are only responsible for providing the environment but the later learning part is all dependent upon the students.
Here some facts about it:
- Responsible self-learner:
Such learning is completely controlled by the learner. Which creates a Responsibility among them. They have their own learning goals and are free to choose their own learning strategy as well. It all makes kids responsible and so they are not reliable on teachers for teaching and schools to take care of them. As rightly coined by the Father of Autonomy, Henri Holec, “ Autonomy is the ability to take charge of one’s own learning”.
- Autonomy is a skill:
Although it is the good way to learn and make students self-responsible for learning. But it cannot be adapted for all students, it is a skill which needs relevant qualities in the student. Like a students who has the ability to reason, question and also appreciate different point of views. It is mostly applicable for student’s who value self-worth and self-respect.
- Independence in the classrooms:
With open classrooms concept where, kids can learn in their own pace and style, autonomous learning is also the part of the same. As we discussed not all students can follow autonomous learning. The few with proper self-skills can learn in such system.
- Self-Directed Learning :
In short, we are discussing all about self-directed learning. A student who value their own interest and learning strategy is an Autonomous learner. After goals and strategies the students also have to check the outcomes of learning. This learning system is totally dependent upon the goals, if the true outcome is achieved then we can say it is realistic form of learning.
